Meet Our Swim Coaches

Hello, I’m karen stump.
I have been a competitive swimmer for 40 years. I currently compete in US Masters Swimming, where I hold multiple All American Titles, National & World Records. I spent some time in the triathlon world, mostly Xterra. Also, I was the token female on an Adventure Racing team in Washington, DC before making my way back to the pool.
Competition keeps me relevant and thoughtful as a coach. I constantly test workouts and drills on myself, fine tuning them before passing them along to my swimmers. I spend a lot of time in the weightroom experimenting with swimming related exercises.
My experience not only benefits the competitive swimmer and triathlete but also the casual and beginning swimmer. Proper technique and total body muscle recruitment is the foundation of any swimming plan. I am excited to help you no matter how big or small your goals.
Hello, I’m kristen smith.
I’ve been competitive swimming for over 35 years. I started in the pool 🙂 Swimming competitively through my freshman year in college, where I finished my other years playing water polo for ECU. You can still find me chasing the black line, however, I spend most of my time now in the open water. I have over a decade of open water experience from all over the world. I currently compete in the sport of SwimRun.
Having the experience of not only pool swimming but open water as well, it’s my passion to share and teach as many people as I can. It’s also important for me to coach basic to advanced skills for either setting. Whether you are ‘learning to swim’ or competing in your first swim event (Swim Meet or Open Water), I would love to help you achieve your goals.
Over the last 18 years of coaching I’ve worked with Adult masters, Open water, Triathletes, Armed Forces, Navy Seals, Rescue Swimmers, and many more. Proper technique and skill development are critical for improvement and areas I focus on, regardless of your swimming background or goals. The water is my life and I’m excited to share the knowledge with you.
