The Low-Down on Todd:
Todd discovered the world of endurance running as an adult after spending time hiking, and then running, on trails. After participating in a few shorter trail races Todd signed up for his first ultra, a 50k race, and was immediately hooked. He then ran his first 100 mile trail race and, although he finished, he knew if he was to have longevity in the sport he would be much better served to put aside the DIY approach and enlist the help of a certified coach. Enter Without Limits Charleston. After joining WOL CHS as an athlete Todd has gone on to compete in a variety of races including multiple 100 mile ultras, finishing each one and staying free of major injuries throughout the process.
Todd is motivated to coach by his passion for the sport and helping athletes get the very best out of themselves. He has developed a keen interest in evidence based training with a focus on mobility and recovery practices. He strongly supports the idea of training the body and mind for the long game, not just one race or season. Todd encourages bringing awareness to “The Why” behind what motivates an athlete, believing that mental toughness and a desire to test yourself by doing hard things can be cultivated.

What are your favorite races or events?
Even though I may not admit to it during a race (especially while tackling a grueling climb) I love 100 mile events. I love the challenge of working through issues as they arise during races and the controlled chaos that long distance races offer. What’s most surprising to me is I love running at night!
What was your defining moment as an athlete or coach?
Finishing 2nd Overall at 2024 Blood Rock 100. Living and training in a mostly flat area with swampy trails can be a challenge for racing on technical trails with steep climbs and sharp descents. By working consistently under the guidance of a WOL coach and showing up for training every day I put my fitness and knowledge to use and survived a battle of attrition and sub freezing temperatures to cross the finish line in 2nd place.
What are your favorite non-running activities?
I love spending time with my wife and our two daughters who all happen to be Without Limits athletes as well. I enjoy learning about longevity, discovering new information in endurance training, practicing yoga and meditation and being outdoors. I am also an avid supporter and board member of Empowered Minds, an organization that teaches yoga and mindfulness in Charleston area schools.
