The Low-Down on Meredith:
Meredith Nelson has a varied and extensive history in the fitness industry. Starting in the 1980s, Meredith gradually developed a love of all things active – especially running, weightlifting, yoga, and cycling. But she doesn’t stop there – golfing, hiking, adventure sports, stair-climb races, and drinking fine wine (that’s an activity, right?!) all bring her joy. These days, you’ll find Meredith swimming, biking, or running as part of her triathlon training regimen; weight-training; spending time on her yoga mat; or playing golf during her downtime.
As a certified Personal and Small Group Trainer, RYT-200 Yoga Instructor, and TPI Fitness Professional, she has made a career from putting her clients through strength-training workouts, zen sessions on the mat, or boot camps. Now with a newly obtained RRCA Level 1 coaching certification, Meredith is excited to help other runners plan for and achieve their goals in the sport. She believes that in order to receive the reward, one must give the effort; and with her guidance, encouragement and motivation, her athletes usually do!

What are qualities you admire in your athletes?
Having recovered from emergency back surgery in 2012, I can relate to, and admire, those athletes who have overcome adversities of some sort. Physical hiccups, scheduling conflicts, and other demands can often interfere with an athlete’s plans or goals. When I see someone faced with such roadblocks, yet they stay motivated and determined to move forward– although sometimes heading in a different direction, I admire them. Their perseverance can even motivate me to work harder and often go the extra mile for them!
What are your favorite races or events:
I’ve always loved events that are a little out of the ordinary. Stair climb races, obstacle course races (I completed the Chicago Urbanathlon in 2008), and push-up challenges always get my attention! Trail races are super fun too. As far as local races that I enjoy, the tradition of the Kiawah Island Marathon, the fun atmosphere at Peyton’s Wild and Wacky 1 10 x 5k, and the local Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series. And of course, there is the best after-party at the Avondale 5K!
